Len and Connie's Family Tree

This tree is as far back as we have been able to accurately verify ancestors from our family tree. Donato Covatta (1902) was our father. We know from the Ellis Island site that our grandfather Leonardo (1875) visited the U.S. on March 29, 1902 travelling on a ship called the Saint Paul. He visited again May 1, 1908. He travelled to the U.S, yet again in 1916 on Aug. 13. He would come to the US to work at a cigar shop to earn money, for about a year or two, and then went back to Italy to join his family. The cigar shop was on 7th St. in either Providence, Rhode Island or the Boston area. The shop was called F.A. Goduti Cigars and Tobacco. The ship on his last voyage was Duca D'Agosta and he was 40 years old and married at this time.

We know Leonardo's father was Egidio Covatta, born in 1847 and we are trying to find out who Egidio's siblings may have been or even if he had siblings at all.

I am currently requesting the Commune di Frosolone to supply a birth certificate of our great grandfather Egidio (1847). This certificate should show the names of his parents. We believe but have yet to verify that Egidio's father was Leonardo Covatta because he called his first born Leonardo but this is just a guess at this point. Letters to Italy for genealogical data is a slow process. I will post more soon.

Covatta in Pennsylvania

Robert A. Covatta Sr., 65, of Douglassville, died Thursday, Aug. 10, 2006, at St. Joseph’s Hospital, Reading, of natural causes.
Born in Norristown, he was the son of the late Anthony and Elsie D’Angelo Covatta. He was the owner of Covatta’s Brinton Lodge, Douglassville, for 26 years. He loved and enjoyed operating his resturant and spending time with his friends there. He is survived by three sons, Robert A. Covatta Jr. of Royersford, John F., husband of Lori Covatta of Birdsboro, and Anthony C. Covatta of Douglassville; three daughters, Trisha A., wife of Jim Mower of East Coventry, Michelle M., wife of Jose Moreno of Oley and Lauren A., wife of Ethan Jones of Douglassville; two brothers, Richard Covatta of Malvern and Thomas Covatta of Collegeville; one sister, Concetta Wolf of Oley; eight grandchildren, Leanne and Daniel Mower, Casey Covatta, Sean and Adam Covatta, and Alyssa, Shannon and Christian Moreno; dear friends, Laurie and Jon Engleman; and their children, Madeline and Jack.

Welcome Covatta Families of the World

I have created this space for all Covattas throughout the world to come together to discuss our family history and see where we all fit in. My name is Connie Covatta (1956) and my brother is Len Covatta (1954) whom many of you may already know. Our parents immigrated to Canada from Frosolone, Isernia, Italy in the early 1950's. Their names were Donato (1902) and Antonietta(Paduano) Covatta (1921). Donato had a brother Egidio (1900) and a sister Lucia (1906). Their parents, my grandparents, were Leonardo (1875) and Concetta(Montalbo) Covatta (1880). Leonardo's siblings were Francesco (1877) and Feliceantonio (1884) and a sister Berenice (1888) who passed away at a young age. I will continue to add on to this history in future days and hope many of you will share your family histories as well so we can find our common ancestors and see how we are all related.
Most Covatta families I've found over the years and throughout the world seem to come from the same area of Molise so I think we are possibly all related at some point in the past. I would like to hope so.
